VETERAN & SERVICE DOG FUND

A veteran should never have to surrender their service dog to find safety.

For a veteran who relies on a service dog, losing housing can threaten more than a place to sleep. It can threaten the partnership that helps them navigate daily life.

Boots On The Ground NY is creating a dedicated fund to help pay for safe, temporary boarding and essential care when a veteran entering shelter or emergency housing cannot immediately remain with their service dog. The goal: protect the dog, preserve the bond, and help bring them back together as soon as possible.

Gifts designated to Operation Stay Together will support this specific purpose. Assistance will depend on available funds and the veteran’s needs.

Our first priority is keeping veterans and their service dogs together. Service dogs generally have access rights in shelters covered by the ADA; temporary boarding is a bridge when separation cannot immediately be avoided.
